The last couple of weeks I have been “re-discovering” and listening a lot to the two EP’s ”Cascade” and “Lifeforms” by The Future Sound of London on Spotify. Both EP’s are just fantastic soundworlds that are very inspirational to listen to. As soon as my new Onkyo CD player arrives I will take out those two EP’s and listen to them “properly on some real equipment”. Hopefully it will be a completely different sonic experience than listening to them on a streaming service on the internet and some small computer speakers?
It is funny, or perhaps sad or scary, how I have changed the way I listen to music these days? MP3’s and the internet is a wonderful way of discovering new music and artists out their in the world but the cost is definitely sound quality, which has suffered a lot. The ears are amazing in the way that they are forgiving and I have discovered how quickly I adapt and settle for the sound quality that I am presented.
I do hope I can hear and enjoy the difference while listening to the EP’s on my CD player and amplifier and if not I will have to make an appointment at the ear doctors and maybe also a psychiatrist to find out what have happened to my ears and mind…
For some time during the 1990’s I bought everything I could find by The Future Sound of London as well as the releases by The Orb, another favourite group of mine from the “new wave of ambient and electronic music” in the 1990s. These two groups were huge influences on me and my own attempts at making music at the time. If Jean Michel Jarre was the music and artist that got me into electronic music and synthesisers in the 1980’s, then The Orb was definitely the second burst if inspiration in my musical life during the 1990’s. Since we are talking influences and sources of inspiration, I might actually go so far as calling them milestones in my life, when it comes to music that is, I have to mention the record label Spotted Peccary and all their great artists and also the Steve Roach which I discovered in the 2000’s.
I bought a new CD player the other day and am waiting for it to arrive. I found a used Onkyo DX-7355 which I bought for less than half its current retail price.
I did start to sell my CD collection last summer and it has gone really well. But I still have a lot of CD:s left to listen to and there are a few albums which I believe will be close to impossible to find or afford on vinyl.
It will be nice to once again own a dedicated CD player and it looks amazing. I can not wait to place it next to the Onkyo amplifier, connect it and listen to some music.
If you are using Spotify you will now be able to listen to some absolute incredible ambient music from New Zealand. Today I discovered that three albums by Rudy Adrian was added. You can now listen to the wonderful album “Healing Lake” plus “Twilight – Atmospheric Works Vol. 2″ and the live album “Concert In The USA” from 2007.
This find was made possible thanks to the great service of www.spotiseek.com.

I discovered a while ago that the brilliant british Tv comedy Saxondale was available as a 3 disc DVD set, collecting both series 1 and 2 in a nice little package.
My initial thought was that this was perfect as I have not gotten around to buying any of the seasons yet. I have been hoping for a third season but it does not look like it will happen anytime soon. But I bet you that as soon as I decide to purshase this, so called complete collection, they will announce a third season. Then a new complete series box set will be released and this one will feel “useless”.
So if this theory is true, maybe I should do all Saxondale fans a favour and order it right away? That way we will get a new third season… If it only was thist easy?
Because of my iPod Touch I stopped reading books a while back. But now that reign of illiteracy is over. I have picked up a few books during the last couple of months but nothing has really gotten my back on track again.
Two of my favourite writers are Michael Connelly and Jonathan Kellerman and really enjoy reading crime novels and the occasional political white house drama. Let’s not forget Stephen King who is a remarkable writer. I have also read all the book by Dan Brown, except the latest “The Lost Symbol” and really enjoy them.
I did pick a few science fiction books and have tried to get through them but it does not really work for me. Maybe I was just unlucky and picked two books that were a little hard to get into for a newbie like me? So if anyone has any recommendations on good entry-level science fiction books to read fell free to get in touch. I really enjoy watching science fiction movies and Tv show, so a book should work too?
But the other day I picked up a copy by Dean R Koontz, another writer I really like, called Night Chills and have read a few chapters. Thank You, Mr Koontz.
I got these albums on vinyl the other day. Some because they were cheap, some because they are good, some because I hope they are good and some because they look good… you figure it out.
Yesterday I had some extra time after work so I stopped and purchased some vinyl on my way home. The prices were phenomenally good and low so I got some records I normally would not have paid for…
One of the nicest/coolest ones I got was the 12 Inch “Land Of Confusion” by Genesis. Not my favourite period of Genesis by far but the cover speaks for itself. It is just amazing and will be just perfect together with the wonderful christmas gift I got from my lovely wife.
Yes, she got me the Art Vinyl display flip frames and I just love them! They will be a great addition to my music studio… which will now also double as a “man cave”… not that I am in no need of that.
I also got a soundtrack by Tangerine Dream and some other albums I will write more about in a up-coming post. Stay tuned for an update on that as well as the Art Vinyl frames and what trio of albums that were first displayed… you do not want to miss that.
I did start to sell my CD collection last year and a lot of my albums have been sent to their new owners. But I still by a CD now and then. When this brand new 2 CD live album by Opeth, one of my favourite bands the last couple of years, turned up on for only 49 SKr I could not resist.
The Roundhouse Tapes is also available as a two disc DVD version which I would not mind getting as well.
Here is a clip that will not only entertain you, it will also educate. This one is from the hillarious and brilliant comedy “Saxondale” starring Steve Coogan.
