Artist: Pink Floyd
Title: The Wall
Year: 1979
This is perhaps one of my first obvious albums in this series. You may think that there are other Pink Floyd albums that are better and perhaps you are right. They have done a few other albums that I believe needs to be on this list too. But let’s start with this one.
Roger Waters is all over this album and apparently this is his project from start to finish. I would actaully go so far as to say that Roger Waters writes really simple music. But it takes a lot of talent to create something this great with simple methods.
I think this was one of the first Pink Floyd albums I ever heard. I remember being blown away by the music, the arrangements and cool sound effects like helicopters and dialog. Also the fact that the songs seemed to merge into eachother was very appealing to me.
The story and concept of The Wall also adds to the overall experience. But the main reason you need to hear this album is first and foremost the music.
These albums are not presented in any particular order.

there are probably five floyd albums fighting for my favortisim at any given time. This album though is very special to me. Its the first album I ever bought with my own money, from my first job. Plus all of the songs are so interconnected, it dosen’t just play through as a concept/story album but when you relisten you will see that all of the songs and themes are connected in so many ways.
And the music is just good on itsown.
One fact that I think needs to be mentioned is that “Comfortably Numb” was actually a song that David Gilmour had written for his first solo record “David Gilmour”, but, he couldn’t come up with lyrics. He brought it to “The Wall” and Roger wrote the lyrics. That is why, in my opinion, Gilmour/Waters are the best writing team in music. Neither have wrote such a moving piece of music apart.
Thanks Tres and Brandon for your comments!
As Tres points out David Gilmour wrote and contributed songs for this album. Not only is he credited for “Comfortably Numb” but also “Young Lust” and “Run Like Hell”.
So it is not actually Roger Waters from star to finish as I wrote before. He was the major force behind the concept and all the lyrics. But without the other members playing this would not be the album it is.
There will, as I wrote before, be more Pink Floyd on this little list. I have also planned for a Roger Waters solo album which I really like a lot… which one might it be?
Thanks again for writing and I am very happy that somebody actually reads my blog… and then takes time to comment… thank you!
