The Beyond…

Today I watched to movie The Beyond, an Italian horror movie by Lucio Fulci from 1981. I must say that this is probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The story is awful, the acting is horrible. I got the feeling this movie was made for one reason only, and that was to show of new special effects and trying to go one step further than other movieshad done at the time.

I can imagine the special effects guys telling the director that they had come up with a method to do melting faces and spiders that eat people. Lets make a movie and put that in, we will think of a story later.

Another disappointment was the music. In a few places there actually was some really moody and nice music with strings and flutes. But as soon as the special effects came, the music turned into some cheesy pop music that would have fitted better in a instructional video for how-to-use your new hair-trimmer or juice-maker.

The story felt as important and forced as in a porno movie. Just something to put in between all the action…
