Mash Mash Up Up

Lately I have noticed that a lot of things come in twos. Now, what does that mean you might ask yourself? Well, twice in the same day I have come across the “mash-up” from two entirely different sources.

- Number 1 -
The other day I bought an older copy of the Classic Rock Magazine and in it I read an article about the producer, remixer and mash-up artist Mark Vidler and his Go Home Productions. After reading the article I looked up his website at www.gohomeproductions.co.uk. If you go to the mp3 section you will find some free music for download.

The album called Spliced Krispies was released in may 2008 and features music from artists like The Rolling Stones, The Stone Roses, The Beach Boys, Nirvana, Queen, Black Sabbath and many more.

There also visuals/videos for each song as well as notes on each track to read.

On the website you can read the following:
“Anyway, grab the album while you can, you can never tell how long I can keep it alive before the Sweeney break down my door…”.

Yesterday I read a post by my friend at Pay For Soup were he wrote about the mash-up artist called Girl Talk. His latest album Feed the Animals is now available, for as much as you like to pay, on the maybe appropriately named record label ”Illegal Art”.

So twice in a very short period of time I have stumbled upon the mash-ups. Kind of interesting and spooky… not the mash-ups, as much as the fact that they showed up twice with just a couple of hours apart.

Honestly some of the things I hear in the mash-ups are spooky and it is very impressive how they get things to work that well together.
