Mojo CD – The Dawning of a New Era
Once again some superb summer music. I can not say I have listened to a lot of ska music so this was quite a treat to find. The music on this CD is fitting the hot weather we have had perfectly. There is something with the accented guitar and piano rhythms on the offbeat that makes this kind of music sound very happy and positive in my ears. At the same time it can be one of the most annoying things if I not in the “mood”. I wonder what aspect of Ska music that so appealing to many skinheads?
On the front cover of this CD it says “15 Classic Punk & Ska Tracks” but I do not hear that much punk on this album to tell you the truth. That does not matter because I do not really like punk anyway, with the exception of The Clash and The Ramones.
When I read some more about Ska on the Internet I found out that Ska was a precursor to rocksteady and reggae. I had always thought it was the other way around…
This CD came with the music magazine MOJO issue 174 from May 2008 and on their website you can read the following about this CD.
“The Dawning of a New Era is mining the roots of The Specials oeuvre with 15 punk & ska gems. Cuts from Bob Marley & The Wailers, The Ruts, Toots and The Maytals and Desmond Dekker are all included!”
