I have not listened to death metal band Cannibal Corpse much. I guess I kind of missed them and listened mostly to the bands Carcass, Entombed and Death.
The other week I watched the documentary on the DVD Centuries Of Torment and it was very interesting. Not only is it a great documentary about the band but it also gives you a good look into to the American death metal scene and the whole “Florida phenomenon” with producer Scott Burns and the Morrisound Recording studio in Tampa.
You get the history of the band, how it was formed, their different line ups, the recordings of their albums, all told by present and former band members as well as insights from fans, friends and people around the band. It is an impressive 20th anniversary document they have put together, clocking in just under three hours!
No matter how disgusting their lyrics are and how brutal and aggressive their music is, the guys come across as pretty normal people that has managed to keep both feet on the ground and they give a very nice impression.
Apparently Jim Carrey was huge death metal fan and personally requested that Cannibal Corpse should play the club in the movie Ace Ventura, a personal favourite of mine. Here is a link to an extended scene with Jim Carrey and Cannibal Corpse which did not make it in to the final cut of the movie.
